Cutaneous malignant melanoma is a life threatening cancer with poor prognostics due to high metastasis potential. The main obstacle in treatment of metastasis melanoma is the resistance to chemotherapy. Recent studies indicated that apoptosis is a common mechanism of action for various cytotoxic agents. As p53 play important role in apoptosis, we reviewed the role of p53 in chemosenstivity of melanoma cells and we are poised for major advances and eagerly anticipate the translation of these discoveries to improved patient management and novel therapies.
